How to find dismissed notifications on Android
On supported phones, check Settings → Notifications → Notification history. It must have been enabled before the alert arrived. Quietly adds searchable history and retention controls for notifications saved after setup.

Check Android's built-in history first
Look in Settings, then Notifications, for Notification history. Availability and navigation vary by phone. Where supported, the history can show recently dismissed alerts and the day's notifications. If it already contains the alert you need, you may not need another app.
Finding an empty history is different from finding a deleted message. The phone may not have been recording, the alert may fall outside the available period, or the source app may never have included that content in a notification. Check the original app when possible.
Set up a searchable record for future alerts
Quietly is useful when you want to search saved notification text, browse by app, or choose a longer retention period. Recording starts after setup, consent, and notification access; installing it now does not restore notifications dismissed before it was recording.
The content must reach Android and be available to Quietly while processing is active. Notifications hidden by the source app, missing previews, and processing interruptions can leave gaps. Treat the history as a record of captured notifications rather than a complete archive of your accounts.
- Install Quietly and read the explanation of notification processing.
- If you agree, give consent and enable Quietly in Android notification access settings.
- Check that processing is active, then allow a new notification from another app to arrive.
- Open History and search a phrase from that alert, or browse its sending app.

Choose how long records stay
Quietly offers 7, 30, or 90 days of retention, or retention until you manually delete records. The current default is 30 days. Choose the shortest period that covers what you regularly need to find; older notifications can contain details you no longer want stored.
The free version's seven-day Insights window is separate from notification retention. You do not need Pro simply to select 30-day history retention. Storage safeguards still apply, so 'until manually deleted' should not be read as an unlimited archive or a backup promise.
Preview a message without opening its chat
When a messaging app includes message text in its Android notification, Quietly can display the saved preview in its own history. You can inspect that copy without selecting the action that opens the original app.
This is useful when you want context before deciding whether to enter a conversation. It is not a guarantee about read receipts: those depend on the messaging app and its behavior. Quietly cannot reveal text the app withheld from the notification. Choosing an Open action can take you into the source app.
Understand the limit of a saved preview
A preview captured before a sender deletes or unsends a message may still be present in your local history. That is an earlier notification copy, not recovery from the conversation. It may be incomplete, replaced, expired, or absent.
Deleting Quietly history or shortening retention can permanently remove records. Re-enabling recording, reinstalling the app, or buying Pro does not recreate deleted local history.
